Abstract

Objective

Optimization of diagnostic methods of isolated echinococcosis of the brain in children.

Materials and Methods

The results of a comprehensive examination of 55 children with ICE who were treated at the Department of Neurosurgery and Polytrauma  of the State Educational  Establishment "Avicenna Tajik State Medical University" from 1986 to 2025 were analyzed. The children's ages ranged from 2 to 18 years. There were 31 boys (56,4%) and 24 girls (43,6%). The ratio of boys to girls was 1,3:1.

Results

A high frequency of lesions was detected in the age groups of 7-11 years (34,5%) and 12-18 years (36,4%), with a predominance (49-89,1%) of rural residents. Children were hospitalized in the clinic in most cases in the subcompensation (19-34,5%) and moderate decompensation (27-49,1%) phases of the disease. Analyzing the data of the clinic, EchoES, ophthalmological, radiological changes, indicated the duration of the process and the duration of the disease, indicates the localization of the alleged intracranial volumetric process. The diagnostic efficiency of CT was -97%, MRI -100%.

Conclusion

The clinic of ICE in children for a long time is asymptomatic, manifested with gradually progressive general cerebral, focal, intoxication and dislocation syndromes. Echoencephaloscopy, craniography, and neuro-ophthalmological examination methods are important for active case detection and serve as criteria for selecting patients for CT and MRI, which are highly reliable diagnostic methods.
